Spanish research has found that even if the flu jab does not stop the elderly from contractin­g flu, it prevents the illness from becoming severe. A flu jab three years in a row made it 31 per cent less likely to be admitted to hospital with the virus, 74 per cent less likely to be admitted to intensive care and 70 per cent less likely to die, it was reported in the Canadian Medical Associatio­n Journal.
