£2m for NHS delays that led to paralysis
A grandfather has won a £2 million settlement from the NHS after he was left paralysed from the waist down following delayed treatment for a spinal abscess the size of an orange.
Kevin Greenfield, 61, of Tamworth, Staffs, was admitted to Royal Derby Hospital in March 2012 after experiencing intense back pain. He was told to rest for 24 hours before an MRI scan showed “nothing”. A second scan revealed the large abscess.
While it admitted some breaches in duty of care, Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust never admitted liability but has now apologised.
