No leaks at Westminster – and no motions passed
MPS and staff were caught rather short yesterday after a broken water mains left most of the lavatories in Parliament out of order.
Sewerage problems in south London meant most of the amenities in Westminster failed to flush. Taps also stopped as the water pressure failed.
Offices on the higher floors, often reserved for ministers and senior staff, were worst affected, with many bathrooms out of action altogether.
Staff had to use alternative facilities at Portcullis House, the newest part of the Westminster estate, which appeared to be working throughout the breakdown.
