A party revolution
SIR – I watched Emmanuel Macron’s television broadcast in France on December 31. It was impressive; not for his politics, but for the fact that the fortunate French have experienced a breath of fresh air from a party which didn’t exist two years ago.
At our next general election in 2020 I am pretty certain that, like many others, I shall be voting against, rather than for, something. To keep out Jeremy Corbyn and his fellow Marxists, I shall be voting for a party led by a mediocre leader with no political nous and little personal power who – despite a reshuffle – is surrounded by a collection of hasbeens and wannabes.
The French were faced with a similar predicament and the answer was provided swiftly and effectively by La République En Marche!, which, whether or not it succeeds under Macron, has changed their political landscape for the better. Britain needs something similar in order to reenergise us dyed-in-the-wool Conservative voters and enable us to vote positively for Conservatism. Nick Darton-bigg

SIR – The photograph of the Prime Minister and her reshuffled Cabinet colleagues outside No 10 (January 9) looks like an identity parade of people desperately seeking an identity. Laura Davis

SIR – It seems this Government is just not very good at anything. I think, after a few months’ break, we are ready for another election.
