£800,000 for bin lorry crash victim’s family
The family of a mother who died in the Glasgow bin lorry tragedy will be paid more than £800,000 damages by the city council, it emerged yesterday.
Gillian Ewing’s family is to receive the money after the compensation case was settled out of court last month. It is the first payout by the local authority to the families of the six victims. The deal follows a legal fight by Ms Ewing’s daughter after her mother, 52, from Edinburgh, was killed by an out-of-control truck driven by Harry Clarke, 60. A fatal accident inquiry found that he lost consciousness at the wheel before the crash in December 2014.
