A third Doctor Foster? The prognosis is not good, says star

-

♦ Suranne Jones, the star of Doctor Foster, the BBC drama, has said the mixed reviews for its second series “hurt” and suggested there is unlikely to be a third.

The actress, who won a Bafta for her role as Gemma Foster and also co-produced the series, said that, while she appreciated “popular TV”, she had been upset that some viewers had called the show a “guilty pleasure”.

She said: “It was so split, with people saying, ‘This is ridiculous, this is a romp – but I’ll watch it’. “That hurt, though, in the sense of, ‘You’re saying it’s guiltypleasure TV.’ I don’t want to do guilty-pleasure TV.”

Jones added that, given there had been scepticism about making a second series, she was unconvinced there needed to be a third.
