Mobilising the war effort against spreading flu

-

SIR – I think it is time to revive the wartime poster “Coughs and sneezes spread diseases. Trap the germs by using your handkerchief.”

It was accompanied by a series of illustrations by H M Bateman. Elizabeth Young

SIR – I was astonished to read of Dr P I Riley being refused a flu vaccination by his GP (Letters, January 13).

I am a care worker on a basic salary and, having read the health board’s policy, phoned Boots and received an immediate appointment to have a flu jab at the local chemist for not much more than a tenner.

At a stroke, I managed to declutter my doctor’s surgery and save the NHS some cash.

My employer, grateful for my commitment to maintaining low sickness absence, promptly refunded the cost.

We need to take responsibility for our own health as far as we can. Gregory P Morris
