I am not with child, I am with pot belly
ASSUMING a woman is pregnant when she is not is an awkward situation all round – but a BBC journalist yesterday dealt with congratulatory messages from viewers in style.
Steph Mcgovern, the business presenter, began receiving tweets from users who thought she was expecting a child after her appearance on Breakfast.
Seeing the funny side, Mcgovern tweeted: “I am not ‘with child’, I am ‘with pot belly’.” Rachel Burden, fellow journalist and BBC 5 Live presenter, tweeted to her: “Did this actually happen? Some people are loons.”
And Hayley Mcqueen, a Sky Sport News presenter, told her: “I get this, normally of an afternoon not long after lunch.” Mcgovern’s tweet drew praise on social media, with one person saying: “Congratulations on enjoying food and being thoroughly nice and normal.”
Louis Barfe, radio critic for Lady magazine, told her: “If it gets you a seat on the Tube, work it, sister.”
Mcgovern, 35, has become renowned for her live reports, delivered with a cheerful personality and a bold Middlesbrough accent.
She is also a champion traditional Irish dancer.
