‘Evil’ Bennell told police he deserved lethal jab
Barry Bennell, the former football coach, told police he was evil and deserved a lethal injection after abusing young boys, a court has heard.
The jury at Liverpool Crown Court heard a transcript of a police interview with the 64-year-old about allegations made by a complainant.
The former Crewe Alexandra coach, who denies a total of 48 allegations of child sexual abuse against 11 complainants between 1979 and 1990, told police he remembered a time when he was “going through ideas to stop” the abuse. He said: “I took an overdose. I’ve done a few things to try and stop it all. I was out of control at the time.” The trial continues.
