Killer’s selfie showed belt she strangled friend with
A CANADIAN woman was convicted of strangling a friend after police discovered a Facebook selfie of her wearing the belt she would use as a weapon.
Cheyenne Antoine, 21, became a suspect in the death of 18-year-old Brittney Gargol in March 2015 after police identified her in a picture taken with her victim hours before the killing.
Her distinctive belt, visible in the picture of the two of them in a kitchen, was found close to Ms Gargol’s body near a landfill in the town of Saskatoon, western Canada.
Antoine pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The pair had been drinking and had taken marijuana when they got into an argument, Antoine told police. She initially told investigators they had been out drinking when her friend left with an unknown man.
But detectives tracked the pair’s movements through Facebook posts, one of which led them to the belt that matched the murder weapon.
