 Jonathan Pryce plays a civil servant trying to solve a murder and win the girl in a bizarre Orwellian dystopia influenced by Modern Times and 1984. The plot is as surreal as the setting but the film ( just about) hangs together thanks to the imagination of director Terry Gilliam, who makes this unlikeliest of worlds come alive. One exampleof the oddity: Robert De Niro’s turn as terrorist plumber Harry Tuttle.
