Firth is latest to shun Allen over sex abuse claim

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

COLIN FIRTH has joined the increasing number of actors who are turning their backs on Woody Allen following allegations of sexual assault made by his adopted daughter.

Firth, who appeared in Allen’s 2013 film Magic in the Moonlight, said: “I wouldn’t work with him again.”

His vow follows that of Timothée Chalamet, star of Allen’s forthcoming A Rainy Day in New York, to donate his salary from the picture, in part, to the Time’s Up campaign.

Earlier this week, Chalamet said: “I don’t want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: Time’s Up, the LGBT Centre in New York, and [the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network].”

Last week, Greta Gerwig, who appeared in Allen’s 2012 film To Rome With Love, said: “If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film.”

In 2014, Dylan Farrow, the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Allen, claimed that Allen sexually assaulted her in 1992 during her childhood. In an open letter published on The New York Times blog, Farrow maintained that she had been scarred by her assault and blamed Hollywood for “turning a blind eye”.

Allen called the accusation “untrue and disgraceful” at the time.

The #Metoo and Time’s Up movements, along with the reporting on Harvey Weinstein by Mia Farrow’s brother Ronan, have brought Dylan Farrow’s claims back to prominence, and on Thursday she discussed them in a television interview for the first time.

Allen has some supporters, however. Alec Baldwin has defended the director, and said his rejection was “unfair and sad”.
