Rise of the New Tories

SIR – Where is this strong Conservative Party that Philip Duly (Letters, January 19) urges Ukip members to join in order to “stop the Left from destroying this country”?

Just as New Labour was created by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown (before disappearing again under Jeremy Corbyn), we are currently living under the New Conservatives. This latest party, which ditched Conservative principles and veered wildly to the Left, was created by John Major and weaned under William Hague, Iain Duncan Smith and Michael Howard.

What we all need is a proper Old Conservative Party of the Right.
