Jury to decide if diminutive sex doll is an adult or a child
A JURY has been called on to decide if a 3ft 3in sex doll with DD breasts is a representation of an adult or a child.
Daniel Adams, 33, was arrested and charged after allegedly importing an indecent or obscene article, relating to a £400 doll, ordered from Hong Kong.
Adult sex dolls are not categorised as indecent or obscene and are not illegal to import, whereas child sex dolls are. Mr Adams claimed he believed he was ordering an adult sex doll.
Photographs of the doll, labelled Fiona, were shown to jurors. Patricia Lynch QC, Senior Judge at Chelmsford Crown Court, also allowed it to be shown to the jury.
Christopher Martin, prosecuting, said the doll was advertised on ebay as “a 3ft 3in realistic sexy doll, life like sexy silicone”. It was “high quality, Japanese technology” and said to “100 per cent mimic a young girl’s body both inside and out”.
Mr Martin said: “We say the doll is a representation of a child, with breasts superimposed on it for sexual gratification. We invite you to determine that the item is clearly obscene.”
Mr Adams searched the internet for “sex dolls” and looked at 158cm, or 5ft 2in, ones. He bought “Fiona” in July 2016 using his ebay account and he requested discreet packaging.
It was intercepted by the Border Force at East Midlands Airport and passed on to Essex Police after packaging disclosed that the contents was a “plastic mannequin”.
When interviewed in October 2016 Mr Adams said: “I had no idea it was a childlike sex doll.” He remembered nothing about height and, in a later interview, said it was “a misunderstanding”.
Mr Martin said Mr Adams claimed “the advert didn’t say anything about a child or that it was childlike...he said because of the breasts he believed he had purchased an adult sex doll.
“He thought the doll would be larger than it was. He said he would not have bought it if he had seen it was 3ft 3in.”
The trial continues.
