Deaf woman sues after failing to understand lyrics at concert
♦ The deaf mother of a Little Mix fan has sued the pop band’s promoter because she could not understand the concert without an interpreter.
Sally Reynolds, who went to see the group at the South of England Event Centre, in Sussex, said she could not comprehend the lyrics without assistance.
She bought tickets for herself, two deaf mothers and their daughters, who are able to hear, and asked LHG Live, the promoter, to provide a signlanguage specialist.
LHG offered to give Ms Reynolds extra tickets, so she could bring her own interpreter, but she did not think this was enough to improve accessibility.
Ms Reynolds told the BBC: “We asked two or three times and the explanation we got back was just a ‘no’. I just wanted to share the same experience as my daughter.”
She then instructed lawyers to apply for a court injunction to force LHG Live to provide an interpreter.
Hours earlier, LHG Live agreed and aid was provided. However, it did not provide an interpreter for the two supporting acts.
Ms Reynolds is now suing because she feels LHG Live failed to make reasonable adjustments, in the form of supplying an interpreter, for the whole concert.
