Family’s anger as carer who smacked relative cautioned

-

 The family of a dementia sufferer have criticised a decision not to prosecute a carer who was caught on a hidden camera assaulting their elderly relative.

Stacey George, 46, was filmed repeatedly smacking Sabina Marsden after the 78-year-old’s family installed recording equipment because they were concerned the carer was “being lazy”. Ms George was handed a police caution after she admitted assaulting Mrs Marsden, from Kettering, Northants, on June 13 last year.

Yesterday, Mrs Marsden’s family released the video to warn others about Ms George. Gina Owen, 46, Mrs Marsden’s daughter, said: “I’m not happy she got a caution because mum was just sat there not doing anything.”

Ms George worked as Mrs Marsden’s carer for Kettering-based Mega Care for almost two years. Winner Lawal, Mega Care’s chief operating officer, said Ms George has since left the firm.

Northamptonshire Police said it would meet the family to discuss the decision not to pursue further charges.
