M&S admits porky pie over gluten-free scotch egg
MARKS and Spencer has admitted that some of its gluten-free Scotch eggs actually contain gluten.
The firm is recalling its packets of two gluten free Scotch eggs because they are made with gluten not mentioned on the label, and they pose a “possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten”. The affected Scotch eggs include all sell-by dates up to and including Monday, Jan 29. The chain has put up notices in stores to alert customers.
A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: “This product contains gluten, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten. If you have bought the product and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
“M&S is recalling the product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
