Goodbye, Gillian

SIR – I was surprised to see Gillian Reynolds’s radio column come to an end (Culture, January 24). Having met her, I can say that she is as formidable in life as in print.

Her forthright opinions about radio, both as an industry and on individual programmes, are legendary. One might not always agree with her, but there is never any doubt about her passion for the medium, which her final column also reflected.
