No free rides

The Competition and Markets Authority yesterday welcomed a vote by the Showmen’s Guild to make the fairground industry more competitive. The guild, which represents about 90pc of UK travelling fairs and dates back to 1889, has agreed to reduce restrictions on how close rivals can set up and to make it easier for workers to join the organisation.
