Salvation in a word
SIR – An article in the current issue of The Salvation Army’s in-house publication Salvationist invites readers to suggest words which sum up the movement. A national poll of the public has revealed the top three words to be “traditional, established and caring”. This was perceived as implying that the movement is “outdated in our methodology”.
I recall that the director of one of London’s top tourist attractions once commented that his establishment’s name comprised three of the most unpopular words in the English language: Imperial War Museum.
