Geordies are worst in Britain for self doubt, says survey

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

GEORDIES are the least confident people in Britain, a survey has found, with more than a third saying they do not feel good about themselves.

Those from the North East are at the bottom of the UK confidence league table, with 37 per cent lacking self-assurance, while people from London have the most confidence with just 29 per cent or residents saying that they have doubts about themselves.

After the capital, the second most confident region in the country is the West Midlands, according to the research, where 69 per cent do not suffer from self doubt.

In third place is the South West with a confidence rating of 68 per cent. Scotland came fourth, with 67 per cent of Scots saying they do not struggle when it comes to being self assured. On average, 32 per cent of Britons said they lack confidence.

The survey was carried out by the insurance company Swinton Group, which asked 4,000 UK adults how confident they felt. Most said they felt more confident in solo situations than they do in group or social ones.

The research discovered that around three quarters of Britons – 73 per cent – said they felt confident travelling alone, and nearly two-thirds – 63 per cent – were confident doing other things alone, such as eating in a restaurant by themselves.

The research also revealed the most common tactics people use when looking to boost their confidence. Just under a third – 32 per cent – have changed their image, with a haircut or new clothes, and 29 per cent have turned to friends for advice.
