Refresh your wardrobe with new season styles
Sat what is new online and in the shops and indulge in one or two new items to refresh your wardrobe. Most of the catwalk shows were full of ideas, many of which are now available through Net-a-porter and the like, if you can’t get to the shops themselves. The high street has been looking, too, and each shop has picked up on what it believes are the best trends for its customers.
Some of the trends are not going to work for many of us – for instance, the oversized tailoring at Céline, which is very beautiful but can swamp any but the particularly statuesque.
Victoria Beckham’s pencil skirts are tempting, but only if you’re certain you feel comfortable in them. A straight skirt requires confidence and a good figure – not necessarily pin-thin, but well-proportioned.
An easier alternative for skirt-lovers is the soft midi-skirt as seen at Stella Mccartney and Roksanda. On the high street, I found a particularly pretty one at Uniqlo, in various plain and printed soft fabrics. Florals are still around, but in softer colours than in recent seasons. I love a good flower print, particularly the lovely, subtle interpretations seen at Max Mara. Erdem and Loewe also offered beautiful florals and longer skirts.
White was seen in almost every show and Stella Mccartney and Joseph had particularly wearable looks. You can be sure to make an entrance in white at a glamorous party; it’s a show-stopper evening colour, particularly with a slight tan. During the day, however, I find white more difficult on its own and recommend teaming it with another colour or a print. A white jacket, for instance (try Massimo Dutti, £229, massimodutti.com), with striped or printed trousers; white trousers with a printed shirt or one of Joseph’s bright leather jackets.
There’s no substitute for getting out and taking a look. I did and happily, I have found two rather promising outfits. But will this rain ever stop so I can wear them?
