Suffragettes’ crimes
SIR – There is a marked difference between pardoning homosexuals and doing the same for suffragettes (report, February 7).
The former were convicted of an offence that has ceased to be a crime; the latter were convicted of activities such as bombing and arson (what we now call terrorism) which were, and still are, crimes.

SIR – The suffragettes knew they were breaking the law, but did so with determination and pride. Pardoning them now will not change history, but will soften the sacrifices they made.
