Easy lies head that wears the crown, says Mckellen
Sir Ian Mckellen has divulged one of his secrets of taking on demanding roles in the theatre – sleep.
During his 100 performances as King Lear at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London from July he will take advantage of a 45-minute section that does not require his presence.
“I can snuggle down and catnap anywhere – it’s a talent of mine,” he said.
Taking a sideswipe at instant stardom, he said: “Some actors will do the same thing over and over again and they are called stars for it. That doesn’t appeal to me. I like to take on different challenges.”
King Lear runs from July 11 to Nov 3.
