‘High-fiving’ lollipop man quits post after parents complain

-

A LOLLIPOP man has stepped down from his role of 20 years after a council received complaints about him “highfiving” children.

Bryan Broom, 77, who works near Kirk Ella St Andrew’s Community Primary School, near Hull, was criticised for “high-fiving” the children when he should have been teaching them about road safety.

He says he has now decided to step down from his post because he couldn’t “go on with the present atmosphere”.

However, parent Geri Mcleod-pratt, 46, said: “I think it’s pathetic and I just think the world is going crazy.”

The East Riding of Yorkshire council confirmed it had received complaints. A spokesman said: “These complaints were investigated but not upheld. Mr Broom is choosing to leave of his own accord and we wish him well.”
