Saving Queen Victoria

SIR – The British Club Bangkok has indicated to Her Majesty’s ambassador that we are happy to place the Queen Victoria statue and the war memorial in our grounds in central Bangkok (“Queen Victoria statue in Bangkok lost to the nation after embassy moves to office block”, report, January 31)

However, I think Queen Victoria might not be amused by the idea (Letters, February 8) that Thailand was ever in the British Empire.
