Susan Tully
Then: Rebellious Suzanne Ross, who broke the rules, left school early and memorably dressed up as Boy George for the disco. Now: One of the original Eastenders as Michelle Fowler, Tully has become a respected director on such shows as Silent Witness and Britannia.
Lee Macdonald
Then: Zammo Mcguire, whose descent into heroin addiction inspired the famed “Just Say No” anti-drugs campaign. Now: Macdonald appeared in The Bill and Birds of a Feather, before becoming a champion amateur boxer. He now runs a locksmiths in Surrey.
Todd Carty
Then: Urchin anti-hero Peter “Tucker” Jenkins, who was key to Grange Hill’s early success. Now: Carty went on to play Mark Fowler in Eastenders and villainous PC Gabriel Kent in The Bill. He memorably took part in Dancing On Ice and skated right off the rink.
Terry Sue-patt
Then: Football-mad Benny Green, Tucker’s sidekick, who couldn’t afford a school uniform because his dad was unemployed.
Now: Sue-patt became a street artist, and later survived a car crash. He reportedly sank into depression and was found dead aged 50 in 2015.
Michelle Gayle
Then: Fiona Wilson, who memorably formed rap duo Fresh ’n’ Fly – Grange Hill’s answer to Salt ’n’ Pepa.
Now: Gayle went on to play Hattie Tavernier in Eastenders, before having a successful music career. She married footballer Mark Bright.
John Alford
Then: Happy-go-lucky Robbie Wright: brother to Zammo’s girlfriend Jackie, best buddy of Ziggy Greaves and something of a Romeo.
Now: Alford went on to star in London’s Burning before being caught in a drug-dealing sting by the News of the World.
Sean Maguire
Then: Troubled teen Terence “Tegs” Ratcliffe.
Now: After stints on The Bill and Eastenders, plus the obligatory short-lived pop stardom, Maguire tried his luck in Hollywood and has forged a thriving TV career. He has played Robin Hood in drama Once Upon a Time.
Michelle Herbert
Then: Flicky-haired bad girl Trisha “Pongo” Yates, part of the original line-up and Tucker’s nemesis.
Now: Herbert gave up acting but did return for the final episode of
Tucker’s Luck. She now runs a double glazing business in Dundee with her husband.
