Parents protest over £500 school uniforms
Japan’s government has threatened to step in over the introduction of expensive Armani school uniforms at a comprehensive school in Tokyo.
Parents complained after Taimei Elementary School in Ginza unveiled a new uniform, which has a price tag of around 80,000 yen (£526).
Yoshimasa Hayashi, the education minister, said that the government would consider taking steps to ensure the burden on parents to purchase uniforms “would not be excessive”.
