Too tall you are... towering princes left out of Star Wars

- By Luke Heighton

THEIR cameo roles in the new Star Wars film were kept quiet for months, but now it seems the secrecy may have been for nothing as Princes William and Harry’s star turns as stormtroopers have ended up on the cutting room floor because they are too tall.

William, 6ft 2in, and his younger brother, 6ft 1in, put on the characteristic white body armour and helmets for a Star Wars: The Last Jedi scene that was filmed during their visit to the Pinewood studios set in April 2016.

However, the scene failed to make the final edit after it was realised the strapping royals towered over their Imperial counterparts.

The pair only learned their scene had ended up on the cutting room floor at the film’s premiere at the Royal Albert Hall, it is thought.

In it they were shown inside a lift, where one of them slaps the behind of DJ, the character played by the actor Benicio Del Toro.

But an unnamed source told The Mail on Sunday: “Stormtroopers have to be exactly 5ft 11in. At the time we shot it I think the feeling was that the scene would make the final movie. The scene just didn’t work for the final cut so it was left out.’

There were suspicions the scene might not have been included after John Boyega, who played Finn, a renegade stormtrooper, hinted that they may not have had the “skills” in a television interview last December.

Lucasfilm and Disney, the films’ producer and distributor, declined to comment.
