Anonymity for ‘false claims’ social worker
A social worker who allegedly put pressure on a teenage girl into making false sex allegations should not be named, a court has ruled.
The woman was criticised by Judge Gavyn Arthur at a private family court hearing in London in 2014 after he dismissed claims by the girl that she had been sexually abused by a relation.
The judge, who has since died, said he would name her in a published ruling on the case. But the woman said his decision was unfair and took her complaint to the Court of Appeal, which ruled in her favour.
Lawyers representing the social worker said she was planning to make a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights.
They say she was suspended from work as a result of Judge Arthur’s decision to publish her name and that her health and reputation suffered.
