Unexploded bomb stops flights from City Airport
An unexploded German Second World War bomb led to the cancellation of more than 100 flights and caused homes to be evacuated yesterday.
The Metropolitan Police and Royal Navy were last night trying to float the half-ton shell from its resting place in King George V Dock, east London.
The discovery of the 5ft (1.5m) bomb caused the suspension of flights out of London City Airport, and among the thousands of passengers affected were Spurs fans heading to Italy for their Champions League tie with Juventus.
The operation was expected to be completed overnight and the airport should reopen today.
