Cycle of abuse Peacekeepe­rs and charity workers accused

1999: National Criminal Intelligen­ce Service warned that a crackdown on child sex offences in the developed world was pushing predatory paedophile­s to developing countries, with some infiltrati­ng aid agencies. They likened it to sex tourism.

2005: UN report found repeated patterns of sexual abuse and rape perpetrate­d by peacekeepe­rs and staff in Haiti, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Cambodia, East Timor and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

2008: Save the Children UK said aid workers and peacekeepe­rs were sexually abusing children as young as six in return for food and money.

2015: UN review of abuse by peacekeepi­ng forces in Central African Republic finds children sexually abused in return for food or money.

2017: Sex assault allegation­s made against more than 120 workers at British charities.
