Cycle of abuse Peacekeepers and charity workers accused
1999: National Criminal Intelligence Service warned that a crackdown on child sex offences in the developed world was pushing predatory paedophiles to developing countries, with some infiltrating aid agencies. They likened it to sex tourism.
2005: UN report found repeated patterns of sexual abuse and rape perpetrated by peacekeepers and staff in Haiti, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Cambodia, East Timor and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
2008: Save the Children UK said aid workers and peacekeepers were sexually abusing children as young as six in return for food and money.
2015: UN review of abuse by peacekeeping forces in Central African Republic finds children sexually abused in return for food or money.
2017: Sex assault allegations made against more than 120 workers at British charities.
