Meghan’s secret visits to Grenfell Tower survivors

- By Stephen Walter

MEGHAN MARKLE has been echoing the charity work of Diana, Princess of Wales by making secret visits to survivors and relatives of people who died in the Grenfell Tower fire.

One of those affected by the blaze in which 71 people lost their lives told the Daily Mirror: “It means so much.”

A source told The Daily Telegraph: “Meghan has been regularly making private visits to organisations as she gets to know the UK charity sector.”

Ms Markle reportedly visited the Al Manaar community mosque, close to the remains of Grenfell Tower in west London, flanked by royal security and an aide. Prince Harry and the Duke of Cambridge visited the mosque in September to comfort bereaved families.

The princes’ mother used to make clandestine trips to homeless people and visit night shelters when she lived at Kensington Palace.

Abdulrahman Sayed, the chief executive of the Al Manaar mosque, said there had been at least three visits from members of the Royal family since the Prince and the Duke came.

The Queen is known to have visited the mosque, which is a mile from the tower. It was one of the first centres to respond by providing food, water, shelter and counselling to those in need in the aftermath of the fire in June last year.

Further details of the Prince and Ms Markle’s wedding day, on May 19 at Windsor Castle, were announced yesterday by Kensington Palace.

In their first outing as husband and wife, the newlyweds will take a tour of the town of Windsor to greet well-wishers.
