Driver taped wing mirror and crashed

 A lorry driver killed a motorcyclist after fixing a broken wing mirror with tape, a court heard.

Robert Witherspoon admitted causing the death of retired David Little, 63, in a crash that also seriously injured the victim’s son.

The 57-year-old was unable to properly check his wing mirror when he switched lanes on the A13 in Barking, east London, because it was hanging off and had been secured in a botched repair job, the Old Bailey was told.

Witherspoon, a former Army driving instructor, was yesterday sentenced to 14 months in prison for causing death by careless driving.
