WELCOME TO GEN Z YELLOW

- Tibi AW18

If you have only just got your head around millennial pink (that’s the soft blush shade that has been identified as catnip to the twenty- and thirtysomething generation, but which actually looks great on everyone), then you may feel despair when you learn that the latest buzz colour is “Gen Z yellow”. Touted for its strikingly acidic look-at-me tone, the shade could be traced through a range of shows catering for entirely different tastes, from a ladylike coat at Carolina Herrera to a lightweight mac at Mansur Gavriel and disco-ready jumpsuit at Brandon Maxwell.

At Tibi, the colour palette was startlingly refreshing as the aforementioned yellow popped against ochre on a cricket sweater, tomato red clashed with baby pink and Cadbury purple fizzed against burgundy. “We always challenge ourselves to think about how people can wear strong colours in their everyday lives,” said the label’s founder and creative director Amy Smilovic. “We don’t want it to feel overwhelming, just fresh and right. I can’t explain why, but I’ve been craving something bright and optimistic.” When you know, you just know.
