An image of two swans entwined in Loch Lomond, left, earned Scottish photographer Grant Thomas the award for British Underwater Photographer of the Year. The overall competition had more than 5,000 entrants from more than 40 countries. Mr Thomas said: “I have always been fascinated by over-under photography, connecting the everyday terrestrial world that we all know with the less familiar underwater secrets.” Other images included seals in the Farne Islands, top, a blue shark off Cornwall, below, and below left, rival male tompot blennies off Swanage, Dorset.
