Sea City – Sunderland BBC TWO, 8.00PM

From Ice to Fire: The Incredible Science of Temperature

BBC FOUR, 9.00PM

 Many of us don’t spend a great deal of time thinking about the ins and outs of temperature. Thankfully, physicist Helen Czerski does and the result is this wonderful three-part series. Beginning in southern Iceland, Czerski deftly combines history and science in a fascinating journey that takes in everything from glass blowing to the sinking of the Titanic. SH

Children Who Kill ITV, 9.00PM

 Ignore the sensationalist title if you can because this documentary is worth watching. The focus here is on the US’S approach to juvenile justice, as Susanna Reid travels to the country to meet both young killers and, importantly, the families of their victims. SH

My Wonderful Life SKY ONE, 9.00PM

 It may sound horribly maudlin but this new series focusing on terminally ill people as they prepare for death makes for lifeaffirming viewing. This episode follows Ian who has advanced prostate cancer as he says goodbye to his wife Christine, friends and family. SH
