Thousand-year-old battlefield oak falls

-

A 1,000-year-old oak tree planted as a Welsh boundary post has fallen down.

The Buttington Oak was found on its side by Rob Mcbride, a self-styled “tree hunter”, who records ancient trees in Wales.

He said the tree, two miles from Welshpool in Powys, would have been planted to mark the site of the Battle of Buttington in 894AD between the Saxons and the Danes, and was also part of Offa’s Dyke.
