Mother stole £48,000 from son’s trust

♦a mother who stole more than £48,000 from her son’s trust has been jailed after telling police it was spent on lingerie for his girlfriend.

Mandy Carmody stole the money from an account set up by her son’s father after he died. Carmody gave the 23-year-old “various excuses” about where the cash had gone before he reported her to the police in 2014. Sheffield Crown Court was told that when Carmody, 46, was interviewed by police she provided false accounts of where the money was.

Carmody, from South Yorks, finally admitted to four counts of theft. She was jailed for 30 months. In a victim impact statement, her son said: “Your mum is someone you should trust. I feel like she’s stolen my future.”
