-

A man and his 11-year-old daughter were killed after being swept away by an avalanche in the French Alps yesterday.

The two reportedly took a closed path while skiing in the Val d’isere area at an altitude of 3,000m (9,800ft), a spokesman for the tourist centre at the ski station, told BFMTV.

The two skiers were part of a larger group, she added.

In a separate incident, two skiers who were caught in an avalanche in Switzerland near the French border were rescued with minor injuries.
