Undercover officer quit to live with her target

- By Kate Mccann SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

AN UNDERCOVER police officer has become the first woman to be identified as having had a romantic relationship with a target she was monitoring.

The spy, who used the fake identity of Christine Green, quit her undercover deployment 15 years ago and has reportedly been living with Tom Frampton, an animal rights campaigner, in remote cottages ever since.

Her case emerged as part of a public inquiry, led by Sir John Mitting, examining how undercover officers often started relationships with their targets.

Mr Frampton had been a leading campaigner against fox-hunting and was jailed for three months for headbutting a fox-hunter in 1993.

According to The Guardian, which helped to uncover the claims, Ms Green and Mr Frampton have been living as a couple since she left her assignment in the early 2000s.

It is not clear at what point she told Mr Frampton about her undercover role.
