SIR – Michael Fallon resigned as defence secretary because his behaviour had “fallen below the high standards that we require of the Armed Forces”.
Jeremy Corbyn is accused of meeting an intelligence operative of what was then a hostile country. Does this not also fall short of what is expected of a man who seeks to be Prime Minister? Phil Mobbs

SIR – If Mr Corbyn had no contact with the Stasi, he should apply to the Bundesbeauftragter für die Stasiunterlagen in Berlin, which will issue a written statement to that effect.
I worked in Germany for more than 30 years as a Ministry of Defence intelligence officer. I applied to the BSTU after I left the service and am happy to say that no evidence of Stasi co-operation was found.
The requisite certificate was issued and now hangs in my lavatory. There are, of course, no guarantees. A F Judge
