4. If it ain’t broke
For proof of the glacial pace at which some trends move, we give you: the reimagined trench coat. We’ve been telling you about it for at least a year, and it’s still going strong. Why? Because, quite simply, it works. A trench is classic but also modern, as good with trainers and jeans as an LBD and heels. The most perfect iteration – beige, lightweight, knee-length – was noted on Margaret Howell’s catwalk, but elsewhere it was chameleonic; Simone Rocha’s was lacquered olive with gathered sleeves, Preen had theirs patchworked with soft samplings of shearling in shades of cream, and Rejina Pyo gave classic versions a twist with pussy bows and knuckle-grazing sleeves. Luckily, you have plenty of time to try them all.
