Aldershot barracks is ‘worse than Afghan tent’

Living in a tent in Afghanistan was better than freezing in the barracks at Aldershot, soldiers have told officers.

Troops at Keogh Barracks, Hants, wrote of their frustration at the lack of hot water and heating.

One claimed a tent in the Afghan desert had better facilities and another described her return to the UK as “depressing”, claiming it was impossible to shower after getting greasy maintaining vehicles.

The morale-sapping conditions had led some to leave the Army, their letters suggest.

One said that “prisoners get treated better than us and we have committed no crime”.
