Winter, schwinter

-

If you thought delicate floral prints, frilled tulle and faux pearls weren’t natural snow‑day accessories, your winter outerwear parameters may need broadening.

Here at Milan Fashion Week, Moncler partnered with Simone Rocha to present a collection that was clever, light and intriguing – and so pretty you couldn’t help but smile as the models trudged their way, with fashionably miserable expressions, up and down a paper mountain.

While Rocha, whose own show during London Fashion Week is always a key attraction, remains something of a niche

name to the world at large, this may just prove the start of a major overhaul of the way we approach cold‑weather dressing. I’m not talking about going bare‑legged in January, as some of those New York fashion week attendees still do – that’s not fashion, that’s masochism, and it should probably remain a minority activity, for the sake of all our sanity.

But why not a sprig‑ printed, padded coat in the depths of a February ice storm, or an insulated ruffled skirt? And if you’ve always wanted to wear a pink down jacket but never found an acceptable shade, here it is. This collection could prove extremely influential, with the high street picking up all kinds of ideas from it. And yes, on those rare bright days, you may wear your sunglasses, even when it’s ‑7C.
