Brief encounter

-

In a scene evocative of David Lean’s 1945 romantic drama about strangers who fall in love after meeting at a railway station, Castle Class No 4079 locomotive “Pendennis Castle” recalls a past age in a shoot at Didcot Railway Centre, Oxon. “Pendennis Castle” was the seventh of 171 Castle Class locomotives built, completed at Swindon in 1924. It was transferred to King’s Cross to work trains on the East Coast mainline. According to the railway centre: “Its exploits were the talk of every schoolboy in Britain.”
