The Daily Telegraph

30 years with Matt

-

SIR – Many years ago, my mother started a tradition of buying me a Giles cartoon annual at Christmas. After she died, my wife continued the tradition and then added the Matt annual as well (leading article, February 25).

This means that I have a collection of more than 50 Giles volumes and more than 20 Matt – all treasured possessions. They are different cartoonists, but both brilliant.

Each Sunday, I look at the week’s collection in the Telegraph and pick out my favourite. Hopefully, though, it is too soon in Matt’s career to pick out an all-time favourite. David Cowgill

SIR – Jeremy Corbyn’s refusal to select a favourite Matt cartoon clearly demonstrates that he is not a fit and proper person to be leader of the opposition, let alone prime minister. Peter Johns

SIR – I was once in a meeting with a superior Left-wing GP from the Welsh Valleys. He spotted a copy of The Daily Telegraph under my arm.

“Of course I would never buy it,” he said, before adding, somewhat sheepishly: “but I don’t suppose I could look at today’s Matt cartoon?” David Kenny
