MAGISTRATES AND TEA HOARDING
Mr. Clynes stated in the House of Commons, yesterday, that the attention of the Food Controller had been called to the decision of the magistrates at Saffron Walden and Finchley in refusing to convict under a summons for hoarding tea, on the grounds that it was not an article of food. Other magistrates had taken a contrary view. The question of appeal was under consideration, and it might be desirable to amend the Food Control order so as to bring tea within its provisions. In any case there was no intention to withdraw the Government scheme for the control of the price of tea.
