Killer drunk driver hit on head with bottle

-

A DRUNK driver who tried to flee after killing three teenage boys was stopped when the victims’ friend hit him over the head with a bottle.

Jaynesh Chudasama, of Hayes, west London, was more than two and a half times the legal limit and doing 71mph on a 60mph road when he ploughed into the teenagers, killing them instantly.

The defendant, who pleaded guilty to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, tried to run away from the scene but was unable to escape when he was pursued by two boys, who dragged him back to where their friends lay mortally injured.

One of the boys later admitted he had hit the driver over the head with a bottle to stop him getting away. The 28-yearold car hire worker also had traces of cannabis in his system, the court heard during a hearing at the Old Bailey.

Harry Rice, 17, a semi-professional footballer, George Wilkinson, 16, an apprentice electrician, and Josh Mcguinness, 16, a labourer, had been among a group of friends walking to a party at 8.40pm on Jan 26 when they were hit.

The defendant had swung his Audi out to overtake another car when he lost control, the court heard.

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said funerals for two of the boys had yet to take place and no victim impact statements had been completed. Sentencing was adjourned until March 9.
