Transgender model sacked by L’oréal in racism row to join Labour equality panel
A TRANSGENDER model sacked by L’oreal for saying all white people are racists has been appointed as a Labour equalities adviser.
Munroe Bergdorf, 30, joins a panel managed by Dawn Butler MP, shadow secretary of state for women and equalities. L’oréal’s first transgender model was sacked days into the job when critics unearthed comments she made about a far-right march in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year in which one woman died. She also attracted criticism for claiming the suffragettes were racist. The model, from East London, wrote on Twitter: “Thrilled to announce that I’ve been asked to be part of an LGBT+ advisory board for The Labour Party.” Ms Bergdorf had previously said: “Privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and death of people of colour. Your entire existence is drenched in racism.”
However, she has since said her comments were taken the wrong way.
A Conservative MP has written to Dawn Butler, asking her to reconsider the appointment. Helen Grant wrote : “The kind of language Bergdorf has used has no place in public life, and ought to be condemned by all those who are serious about promoting equality. I urge you to reconsider your appointment of Munroe Bergdorf.”
